Bad knee ....

... yesterday morning started off so well - Heather, Mum and I headed off to the big Abakan in Mostyn - me driving.  Heather and I spent some time pottering around the craft shop section of the shop - so many lovely goodies, but I was very restrained and only got some chipboard letters and some gilding flakes.  I'd been limping a litttle around the shop, but it was okay.

Then, just after I'd paid and while I was standing by the till waiting for Heather to pay, I felt, and thought I heard, a very large pop in my left knee.  The next thing I know is that I'm almost sitting on the floor and am have incredible pain in my knee.  I managed to get into a chair, but wasn't able to take any weight on my left leg at all - well I could stand on it, but it made my eyes water!!!  LOTS!

Between Heather, the shop assistant and me - I managed to get back into the car - Heather drove home.  I had to crawl into my house on my hands and knees, and if it hadn't hurt so much it would have been funny.  I phoned my doctor and was advised to go to Accident and Emergency.

I arrived at 4.30pm and had to stay on my own.  Heather was kind enough to make sure that Mum and Kathryn were okay, but she couldn't stay with me.  I was seen and had some X-rays of my knee - no breaks - which is good.  However, I was still in enormous amounts of pain - and feeling like an idiot!  I was given some stronger painkillers - good! :)  Then I went to the Observation ward where I waited until almost 11pm to see the doctor.  Good thing I'd taken a book to read.

The upshot is that I've got some serious damage to the ligaments, and possibly the cartilage, in my left knee.  I have my leg strapped up - looking a bit like the Michelin Man!  And I've been given crutches - as I can't walk without them.  I'm seeing my physio later today - hopefully she'll be able to help with the pain.  And in the meantime, I'm pretty much housebound.  Good thing I've got a nice craft room downstairs!! :)  The only thing is that I'm supposed to keep my leg elevated, so crafting will be difficult!

That's all for now.  I'm about to try and negotiate the bathroom with a pair of crutches!!

Oh dear Deborah, that`s not very nice at all is it? The upside is that at least you can carry on producing your lovely creations and the weather forecast is terrible aswell. The downside is not being able to get around. I know someone with a spare commode if that`s any help lol. Sorry that was cruel.

Oh no Deborah poor you - I damaged my cartilage in both knees at the same time in a skiing accident so know how much pain you are in. I do hope you have a large stack of books to read and plenty of craft stash to keep your spirits up.
Take care

How awful - I am so sorry. But it will be interesting to see what you will create while on pain medication!!!

Oh no, that sounds awful. I hope it doesn't take too long to heal. You'll just have to relax and take it easy.

Oh Deborah, Ouch, I too winced when I read 'popped' made me feel sightly queasy. I'm so sorry your knee is injured. I hope the pain eases and you manage to get it fixed, hugs Gay xx

O Deborah I am so sorry for you. It sounds awful and I hope you got rid of the pain. Slow down and take care; not easy to do but it's the only way to get back on your feet again. And hopefully without pain. Take good care of yourself....

You have all my sympathy Deborah. Life on crutches is quite a challenge. (I remember the indignity of negotiating stairs on my bottom!)
