Less is More 14 .....

.... I so missed the Less is More challenge while I was in India - but to be fair, I'm not sure I would have done very well with acetate!!!  Or, indeed, the "off centre" recipe.   I did try to visit everyone while I was away, but didn't quite make it - particularly last week when I got home - but I loved the "Thanks/Congratulations" theme.  However, this week I've managed to get to everyone so far!!  And there are some awesome cards out there.

So the challenge from Lady LIM Chrissie and Diva LIM Mandi (just love those names) for this week's Less is More challenge is White on White.  And the ladies are being quite strict about this - but that's the fun of the challenge!  I knew just what I wanted to make when I saw what the challenge was, but I didn't know whether my new Waltzingmouse Doily stamps would be delivered in time.  They arrived yesterday!!  I'm so happy.  So my card is using the layout from this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge and the theme from LIM.

One of the things that both Chrissie and Mandi mentioned - and lots of people have commented on is just how hard it is to take a photo of a White on White (WoW) card.  It feels weird using the abbreviation WoW in relation to cards - as it's the abbreviation for my husband's favourite on-line game - World of Warcraft!!!

Anyway, to my card.  It's a large card - A5 - and is made of some white hammered card stock that I found in my stash.  My backing paper is from Stampin' Up! - it's discontinued now (sadly) but I think it was called Bride's Paper.  It's a lovely white paper with a tone-on-tone flourish image - looks fabulous.  On to that I attached two doilies - these were made by stamping with versamark onto vellum and using a sparkly white embossing powder, which I carefully cut out.  I made my greeting from another piece of the hammered card which I shaped with Labels 18 and added a simple greeting - Thank You.  I did add some glamour dust to the sentiment.  So here's the card:

I made the card above last night - and I thought the sparkly white embossing powder would look lovely.  However, in daylight - I'm not happy with it - the sparkly glitter bit actually look like dirt!!!

So back to the drawing board.  I got up this morning and made another one - it's the same except that this time I used plain white vellum and detail white embossing power - and I'm delighted with it.  Can I say that I'm pleased with my own card ? :)  So here's take two.  I know that in the photo the doilies look slightly creamy, but in real-life they really are white and are an almost exact match to the self-pattern in the Stampin' Up! paper.  I even went into the garden to try and get good photos!!

Stamps:  Waltzingmouse - Dainty Doilies - Large, Join Us, Dainty Doilies - Small
Inks:  Versamark;  Memento - London Fog
Spellbinders:  Labels 20 (S5-026) Die #3
Papers:  Stampin' Up! - Bride's Paper (discontinued)
Accessories:  Card and vellum from stash; Embossing powder; Glamour Dust - Crystal

I'm not entirely happy with the photos of the card, so I scanned them both - again not perfect - but I think you can see that the doilies are actually white!!

Version 1 - with the sparkly embossing powder

Version 2 - my preferred version - with plain white embossing powder

Can I call myself a LIMette now?  I think I'm totally hooked!!

And that's all for now.  I've put off the ironing for a while, but I'd better do some.  All the clothes that we took to India are sitting in baskets and they really do need to be in wardrobes!   However, I'm going to come back to this challenge later today - I've got an idea!!

See you all later - and sorry it's been such a long post!!

Hi Deborah!

Oh, thanks so much for your really sweet comment on my Waltzing Mouse card!! Loved to read it!! And also loved to read your story here about your card for the challenge! White on white, that sounds very difficult, I must admit, but with all the textures in your cards, this looks awesome! I do agree the second one is even nicer, also the frame with the sentiment, looks gorgeous!!! And see you have the doily stamp already, love it!!

Hugs, Wendy

I had the same issue with my first entry and covered up my white glitter embossing with black text! I think the second one is STUNNING - those doillies are just perfect for this challenge. Great entry to BOTH challenges. I just received a new cricut cartridge so I might even do a 4th entry this week.....

The angled photo from the garden I think is the best & I love the white embossed version rather than the sparkly one. The way the shape of the doily edge picks up the pattern in the paper & the diecut shape of the sentiment really works wonderfully. I think you're definitely a LIMette but then I'm not so not sure I qualify as a judge!!!

Lovely cards Deborah, love those doily stamps...must get mine inked up. I agree the sparkle-less card looks better, these whites are so difficult to match up aren't they. Can I throw some of my ironing your way too ??? lol

Of course you're a LIMette Deborah and have been from the get go!
We must give you full marks for trying to get a decent image of your card...it is so difficult for us non-professional photographers to produce an accurate representation... your doilies do look creamy, but no matter.
I'm glad your stamps arrived in time for you to make this charming card.
Thanks so much
Chrissie

Very lovely card Deborah, I think you were right about the sparkle tho! I think your photos, rather than the scanned pics look fine, I can make out the delicate detail from the doilys, but it's washed out on the scanned pics. A lovely thank you card!

So pretty! I've always been a big fan of WoW, and your example is exceptional! I love your reverse diecut as well--it displays the sentiment so nicely!

Oh lucky you, owning these fab new stamps. They do look cream in the photo but they're beautiful and very neat cutting! An elegant card. x

Both cards are stunning - the first card, I have to say, I prefer the white embossing powder. I had the same trouble with my bridal embossing powder - it looked 'dirty' against the brilliant white. I really love the musical notes card, and a super touch with the embellishment. Lynn x
