Come for a Waltz ...

... with all the friends of Waltzingmouse Stamps.  On the 17th of each month we have a new theme and this month it's MASCULINE!!!  Does that scare you?  It used to scare me!!  However, I'm really enjoying making cards for guys.  For full details of how to join in the fun - check out Claire's blog here!

I've actually made two cards for this challenge.  The first card is for my son Ben - I'm so proud of him.  On Sunday, Ben took part in a 5 mile road race through Hastings (he lives there with his father).  I think it's only the second race that he's run - he completed the race in 1 hour 10mins 50 secs - he wasn't last!!!  And I'm having a very proud mum moment :)  There's are a couple of super photos of Ben on Flickr here and here!!  Photos taken by David Rogers.  So this one's for Ben.

Stamps:  Waltzingmouse - Free Spirit - Boy, Free Spirit - Sentiments; Pic-Nic Patterns
Inks: Memento - Cottage Ivy, New Sprout, Tuxedo Black
Spellbinders:  Lacey Squares (S4-295) die #4; Standard Squares Lg (S4-126) die #4
Topper:  Kanban - Fitness - PCT8047

Detail - showing the sentiment inside

Close up of the card - showing the laurel wreaths and running feet!!!

The second card that I've made for this challenge is for our nephew's 16th birthday - which is at the end of the month.  I've gone for a slightly grunge look to the card - and I hope that Jacob will like it!  I apologise for the quality of the photo - but as I only finished the card last night, I couldn't get a decent photo.  I might try to redo the picture later today.

I started with a white base card onto which I stamped some tiny dots - I inked up the stamp did an impression on scrap paper and then stamped onto the card to give a slightly softer finish.  Next I added a red grid to the left of the card.  Then I used my favourite graffiti stamps on the card.  I stamped the circles onto some card - making sure that most of the space was filled and then used my new Wonky Rectangle dies to cut out the mats.  I made a smaller mat for the greeting which I mounted onto the card with dimensional tape.  I'm really pleased with the card.  I also stamped the envelope with the graffiti image.  I used my Stampin' Up! colour guide for the colour selection - bold, but not too bright!

Stamps:  Waltzingmouse - Free Spirit - Boy, Free Spirit - Sentiments, Off Beat Backgrounds;  Lakeland Dotty stamp
Inks:  Stampin' Up! - Cherry Cobbler, Night of Navy, Pumpkin Pie
Spellbinders:  Wonky Rectangles (S4-306) dies #3 and #5
Accessories:  Card from stash

Now I'm going to have a quick look around the blogs that have linked up - but I can't stop for too long.  Jonathan is back from India today and I'm off to meet him.  So I'll catch up with you all later.  Take care.

Oh now! Your first card is lovely, it really grabbed me and makes me think that I should be sending things like that to my own two, just because! The second card is also smashing and is just what your average 16 year old will love...

Enjoy having Jonatahn home & love the two very different cards. I like the way they are each really personal to the recipient & how you use that WM stamp - I can tell you're really at home with it.

These are great masculine cards! I especially like the first one--cool use of those modern stamps, and it's so neat the way you focussed on the running feet. Thanks for sharing!

Great cards Deborah and what a fabulous way to use a photo on your first card. Both cards are so different but spot on. I really struggled coming up with one masculine card, so I'm in awe of two!

I love that running card but then I'm biased because I am a runner and I know what a great achievement that is! You deserve to be a proud mom.

Very cool creations, I especially like the frame. How DO they run so close together? (My body was not engineered for running).

These are fantastic Deborah! The embossing is wonderful and adds such great texture. Masculine cards are so hard for me but you did a terrific job here! (No - I didn't crochet my lace but that's a great idea!)
