... hello fellow LIMettes - the Less is More colour challenge this week - the flags of your nation - is just fantastic. There are so many fabulous cards already displayed and I'm sure there will be lots more soon.
There are quite a lot of blue, red and white cards - but that's not such a surprise as so many flags around the world are made up of just these colours. I think our African, South American and Asian friends are much more likely to have flags which contain other colours. I did a quick look on Google and I'm convinced that blue is the most popular flag colour!!
So I'm pleased that living in Wales I have another flag to play with. The patron saint of Wales is St David ; we celebrate his day on 1st March each year and in many places St David's flag is flown. It is sometimes seen as an alternative to the National Flag, and that's also a version of St David's flag that includes the National flag. St David's flag is similar to the arms of the diocese of St David's in Pembrokeshire. The flag was also included in Cardiff City's club logo from 2007-08.
Black and yellow - not the easiest of colours to play with - and I've been giving it some thought since Saturday, but this morning I woke up knowing just what I wanted to make. It's a really, really bright card and as a consequence I've kept the design really simple.
I stamped the fabulous medallion stamp in black versafine ink and then heat embossed it with clear powder - it has a really lovely shine. I then sponged yellow all over the card - it actually glows!!! I added a simple sentiment in the top corner - I was very careful to make sure that the embossing powder didn't stick to any other part of the card. I'm really pleased with how this turned out.
Stamps: Stampin' Up! - Medallion; Hobby Art - Best Wishes GR1830B
Inks: Versafine - Onyx Black; Distress - Mustard Seed
Accessories: Card and embossing powder from stash
I've included a picture of the alternative St David's flag (I prefer the plain cross) and also Cardiff City's old logo.
I think I've exhausted flags for my nation :) It's lovely at home today - I'm all on my own - so I've been able to read a bit (more Stephen King), make a card (or two) and even got some washing done. But I've skipped the ironing, my knee doesn't like standing for too long :)) Great excuse - wonder how long I can use it!
That's all for now, but I hope to be back later today with another card to share. See you soon.

Lovely card Deb, we seem to have a lot of flags to choose from in Wales! Sandra
Another stunning card Deb, I can see how it would have been hard to work with these colours, but you have come up with winner

Difficult colours but a great card. I enjoyed the info on the origin of the flags too!
I have to say that I don't think that I knew what St David's flag looked like... shame on me... but you have made a great card Deborah!
Thanks again.

Nice card and brings back childhood memories of holidays in Wales when I was bought packets of paper flags to put in my sandcastles, happy days ;)
Well, I had no idea that St David had his own flag! I am loving this challenge, it's so informative and has got the old brain working! Ouch! A fab card, that medallion is superb in this dramatic colour scheme.
Wow Deborah your card just jumped out of the page at me!! Fab colours and info about St David's that I didn't know. May come up in a quiz :o)

Love the bold medallion in black on the yellow. Makes a fab sunny card. x
I didn't come across this flag for Wales when I was doing my research. It's brill to see so many different flags not just the red white and blue. x

Well I learnt something new today...I never knew that flag existed.
Very striking card, love the medallion in black :)
Just don't let the family find out the ironing board has adjustable heights or they'll suggest you sit down and iron!

Gorgeous cards.....love all the colors you got to work with...lucky you!!
Superb embossing and a striking design!
You're right; black and yellow is not an easy color combo(and way out of my comfort zone; it would be a fab stretch of my limits :)....)
I've seen you using this STUNNING medaillion stamp before but the result on this card made my jaw drop. A handmade jewel; I love the contrast with the ÿellow" background. Gorgeous!
Hugs!

Hi Deborah,
your flag hasn't got an easy colour combo too but you made a real beauty with it. It's really interesting to read all about the different flags of your country.
Hugs,
Lins :)

Yellow and black are great colours and are sometimes used as the default colours on a computer to help people with visual difficulties...

I really LOVE that big medallion!! Makes a beautiful card!
I'd forgotten about St Davids flag, a great choice Debs and of course the Bluebirds emblem, one of the girls in the office travels to every game :)
Seems to be a Welsh theme this week yippee, we don't get in there often :)
Lucky you to have this dramatic colour scheme to work with Deborah! The simplicity of the design is perfect with it.
This is such a nice LIM card! Well done!
Greetings,
Charlotte
