Hockey, movies and cards ....

....  I think the title says it all.  Yesterday's post was scheduled before I came to the US - and thank you all for your lovely comments on my snowflake card - very much appreciated.  I thought I'd bring you up to date with our US adventure.

Wednesday - at the end of my post on Wednesday, I told you that we were going to a hockey match.  Well, it was fabulous fun.  Jonathan drove into downtown Detroit and we met up with some of Jonathan colleagues in a Hockey bar to have a meal before going down to the Joe Louis Arena.  I made sure that we were all dressed up nice and warm, our experience of watching ice-hockey (as it is called in the UK) is at our local rink in Deeside and it's always COLD there.  So we had on lots of layers, which was a good thing, because it wasn't at all cold at the Joe Louis Arena!!  It was quite warm - weird!!  Detroit Red Wings were playing Tampa Bay Lightening - it was fast, furious and fun.  The Red Wings started off by winning the 1st period, but Tampa Bay came back in the second period to bring the score level at 2 - 2, but in the final period the Red Wings came back out on top; the final score was 4 - 2.  So the home town was happy!  I took a few photos to share with you.

Thursday - today we decided to go to the movies.  Kathryn was really keen on seeing Arthur Christmas.  And it was actually really good fun.  We went to the first showing of the day and for a while I thought there would only be Kathryn and me in the screen, but we were joined by a few more people just as the film started.  It's a real family friendly movie and we left the cinema smiling!!  As it should be.

After the movies, we decided to visit the local Mall again.  We went to a shop called Justice - clothes for girls.  Kathryn had a fun time picking out clothes, trying them on and then letting me buy them!!  Kathryn got three new tops - all really different to the stuff we get in the UK.  And, as we were in the area, I had to call into Jo-Ann and have another look at the crafting stuff.  I could have spent such a lot of money, but I was reasonably good.  I got some super 12" x 12" DCWV papers, some stamps, some more Memento pens and a journal for Kathryn.  The photo below is all the stash that I've bought since being here.

Friday - and that brings us up to date.  We had a very light snowfall overnight, but the day has been bright and chill - just beautiful.  So Kathryn and I headed off to the movies again to see Puss in Boots.  Puss is the character voiced by Antonio Bandaras from Shrek; they've made a good, fun movie with him as the main character.  It was fun.  When we got back to our room I decided to make a card using some of my new stash.

The colours for this week's Colour Q - cQc113 are great and fit perfectly with the stash I've bought.  They've gone for shades of blue.

As I'm not at home I've had to take a few liberties with the colours, but I've tried to be as faithful as I can be with what I have here.  I started off with a navy card base.  I also found in my new cards a lighter blue which I cut down to layer on the navy card.  I randomly stamped some images around the edge of the blue card.  Next I used a piece of art paper that came free with one of the US magazines - it's not a perfect match for Sahara Sand, but it is a sandy colour!  I stamped some more of my Tim Holtz images onto the sandy art paper using dark blue ink.  Next I stamped a couple of images onto plain white card.  I cut out this sentiment and attached to the card.  This is a more "arty" type of card - something quite different to what I normally make.  I'm delighted with it.

Stamps:  Tim Holtz - City Central
Inks:  Memento - Tuxedo Black; Memento Pens - Summer Sky, Paris Dusk
Accessories:  Printed Art Paper from Stampers' Samples take ten; Card from new stash

The last week and a half has gone by so fast.  We had a very busy few days exploring the area and we all feel quite confident that settling in the Plymouth/Northville area is what we'd like to do.  So, all being well, sometime early next year we'll be moving to the USA!!!  And Kathryn and I have had a lovely few days having lots of girly time together - and that's such a joy!

It's now 4.45pm and Jonathan will be home from work soon.  We'll be going out for dinner this evening and then tomorrow we're off to Jackson to meet up with a friend of mine - Cheryl.  I first met Cheryl when we were both 11 years old - a few years ago ;)))  Cheryl and her family having been living in the US for nearly 20 years, and the best thing is that they live in Kalamazoo - which is about 2½ hours from where we're staying.  It's a small world!  It'll be great to see her.  That's all for now.

I love hearing you describe your first NHL game!! In Canada, loving hockey is practically a requirement. Football in the US is like hockey here... anyway... glad you got to be at a game where the home team won - that's always more fun. And I giggled about how you prepared for the cold - hockey is big business, no WAY they'd let you freeze! ;)

Glad you're loving your trip Deb! And you even got some crafty time in!!

What a fun trip you are having, Deborah! It's nice to shop in a different country and one that you will be living in soon. Your card is brilliant, especially since you are traveling. Enjoy the rest of your trip and have a safe journey home. Thanks for joining us at the ColourQ this week.
