Uniko - Theme .....

.... Hello! I'm here this morning with my card for our theme challenge at Uniko. This month we want you to create a card that has been INSPIRED BY A SONG TITLE. This card was inspired by the song Hip to be Square by Huey Lewis and The News - see clip at the end of this post:

Smile - photo by Deborah Frings - Deborah's Gems

Stamps: Uniko - All Occasion Sentiments #6, Background Builders Squared, Time
Inks: Memento - Summer Sky, Pear Tart, Rose Bud; Stampin' Up! - Rich Razzleberry, Lucky Limeade
Accessories: White Lustre Card; SU DP - Rich Razzleberry

I've used the colours from this week's Colour Q Challenge - cQc#356. I've made a really clean and simple card, but it took a while! I really like these squares, but it took a while to line them all up. I cut them into a panel, slightly smaller than the card base and edged it with some dark ink. I finished the front with a bold sentiment. On the inside I cut a mat layer of design paper and added some decoration to the white panel.

Do visit our blog to see more inspiration from the rest of the team. The challenge actually started last week and I knew immediately the song that I would use - Yellow Submarine - and I had just the right stamp! And, then I realised that it wasn't a Uniko stamp :)))) As I couldn't get the song out of my head, I had to pass, but this week was much easier.

And here's the song by Huey Lewis and the News:

UC - Geometric Take Two ....

.... Morning!  Here's another in my series of scheduled posts.  It's time to remind you about our current challenge over at Uniko.  We want to see GEOMETRIC patterns with the OPTION OF CIRCLES, SQUARES OR TRIANGLES.  My first card was circles, so this time I decided to go for squares:

Stamps: Uniko - Background Builders Squared, All Occasion Sentiments #1
Inks: Versafine - Onyx Black; Kaleidacolor - Luau
Accessories: White Lustre Card; Stampin' Up! Card - Melon Mambo

I used my MISTI to make this card.  I lined up the stamp in the middle, making sure it was straight and using grid paper and a ruler was able to space out the stamped image evenly.  I've put a video link at the bottom of this post showing how to create background patterns.  I kept this really simple by adding a bold sentiment in black - I didn't want to hide the background!!  On the inside I cut a mat layer of pink card and added some more squares to the white panel - I used my MISTI to position the stamps correctly.

Thankful for You .....

.... Morning!  Bev from Uniko is sponsoring the new challenge over at Time Out Challenges and I've got a card to share with you.  The challenge at Time Out is "Make Your Mark" with a twist of monochrome if you want.  Well, I had to go with the monochrome look and here's my card:

Thankful - photo by Deborah Frings - Deborah's Gems

Stamps: Uniko - Flower Power #5, Background Builders Squared
Inks: Kaleidacolour - Blue Breeze; Versamark
Dies: Lil Inkers - Dual Stitched Rectangles #1 and #2
Accessories: White Lustre Card; Stampin' Up! DP - Pacific Point; Blue Satin Mirri Card; Staedtler Aquarell Pencils; Silver Embossing Powder

I used a couple of challenges in creating this card.  The layout is based on the sketch from this week's Just Us Girls Challenge - JUGS#308, although I did turn it to make it horizontal.  And BLUE is the cue word over at Addicted to CAS - ATCAS#71.

I started by masking off the sides of the card and stamped the background builder stamp repeatedly.  I used Kaleidacolour blues to give some variation in the colours.  I die cut a satin blue mat layer and on the white panel stamped a simple flower, embossed it with silver and coloured it with watercolour pencils.  I finished the front with a simple sentiment.  On the inside I cut a mat layer of blue design paper and added some more blue flowers to the white panel, leaving lots of space for my own message.

TMR - Create Background Paper ....

....  Good morning! It's time for our new challenge at The Male Room and for the next couple of weeks, we'd like to see your masculine style projects featuring the following technique:

MAKE YOUR OWN BACKGROUND PAPER

Here's my project:

Happy Birthday - photo by Deborah Frings - Deborah's Gems

Stamps: Uniko Studio - Background Builders Squared, Simply Said Birthday
Inks: Stampin' Up! - Early Espresso, Chocolate Chip, Soft Suede, Baked Brown Sugar, Pumpkin Pie, Bermuda Bay
Accessories: White Lustre Card; SU Card - Bermuda Bay; SU DP - Chocolate Chip

I used the colours from the current Fusion - FUSION#28 challenge - the colours work really well on a masculine themed card.  The layout is based on the sketch at this week's Retro Sketches - RS#153 challenge.  I had lots of fun creating my own background paper and I had the perfect stamps for it too!  I stamped the grid of small squares in four shades of brown covering one side of the card.  I added a strip of teal card with a narrow strip of brown striped paper.  I finished the front with three geometric square patterns and a simple birthday greeting stamped on the teal panel.  On the inside I cut a mat layer of brown striped paper and on the white panel added a greeting and some more little squares at the bottom.

This is second time I've used these lovely warm, rich colours.  I think it's because I'm fed up of the cold, cold weather - these colours make me think hot!  And yes, it is still snowing here!  And still stupid cold!  That's all for now - don't forget to check out the projects from my team mates!  See you soon.

ASM - Holiday .....

.... Hi!!  I'm beginning to get back to my normal routine now that Mum is back in the UK, it's nice, but I miss her!  Anyway, it's time for our Holiday theme challenge at Addicted to Stamps and More!  Your project can be based on any holiday - Christmas, New Year, Easter and I've gone for Father's Day which is in a couple of weeks' time.

Dad - photo by Deborah Frings - Deborah's Gems

Stamps: Dare 2B Artzy - Daddy Owl; Uniko Studio - Background Builders: Squared
Inks: Versafine - Onyx Black; Stampin' Up! - Real Red, Costal Cabana
Dies: Dare 2B Artzy - Owl 2
Accessories: White Lustre Card; SU Card - Baked Brown Sugar; Copics; Clear Embossing Powder

I've used the layout and colours from this week's CAS - Colours & Sketches - CASC&S#76.  I think I might have mentioned that I rather like owls!  Well I found this super cute owl from Dare 2B Artzy and decided it would be perfect for a Father's Day card.  I stamped the image in Versafine, embossed with clear powder, coloured with Copics and then die cut with the matching die.  I made the horizontal panel from my new background builder set, stamping in both the red and aqua and layering onto brown card.  I finished the front by stamping a simple sentiment.  On the inside white panel I stamped a couple more square borders and a lovely sentiment!

Our sponsor this week is StampArt Design and the winner of the challenge will receive 5 free digi images from Kathryne - and they are fab!  For more inspiration with holiday theme cards, check out the cards from the rest of the team.  Bye for now!!
